About Samuel Beechey, Marine "Barwell" 1798

BEECHEY (BEACHY, BERCHEY), Samuel (c.1763 - 1811)Samuel Beechey was born c.1763 and arrived in NSW on 18th May 1798 aboard the Barwell. He had formerly served in the 87th Regiment Irish Fusiliers, before enlisting in the 102nd Regiment on 12th December 1796. He transferred to the 73rd Regiment on 24th May 1810. He died on the 7th May 1811, with the rank of private. He was buried at the Old Sydney Burial Grounds. He was married to Margaret, who also came to NSW on the Barwell on the 18th May 1798.Children:1. Samuel Beechey (b.1799 d. 1803)2. Thomas Beechey (b. 1801 on Norfolk Island)3. Charles Beechey (b. 1805 on Norfolk Island)Additional information:Private Samuel Beechey served in several placesin N.S.W., before setting sail to Norfolk Island in 1800. On April 5th 1809 Samuel and his family returned to Sydney on board the ship Estremia. Following Samuel's death Margaret sold breadbefore re-marrying Charles Woodge, a carpenter of Sydney

norfolk island shipping records Samuel Beachy and his wife Margaret Beachy arrived in NSW aboard the Barwell in 1798. Samuel being a member of the NSW Corps. He had formerly served in the 87th Regiment Irish Fusiliers, before enlisting in the 102nd Regiment on 12th Dec 1796.

They arrived on Norfolk Island in July 1800 aboard the Hunter with Joseph Foveaux NSW Corps Company.

The family left Norfolk Island aboard the Estramina, in Apr 1809 for Port Jackson with their surviving two children, Thomas (born 1801) and Charles (born 1805).

Samuel Beachy as a member of the NSW Corps, in November 1809 was receiving rations from the Hawkesbury Stores and later in December 1809, he was discharged from the Hawkesbury Stores as going to Sydney.[1]

Samuel died May 1811 Sydney, a member of the 73rd Regiment, buried 7 May 1811 at Old Sydney Burial Ground.

After the death of Samuel, Margaret Beachy, a widow remarried Charles WOODGER, 11 June 1813 St Phillips Sydney. Charles was a Carpenter, the witnesses to the marriage were Richard Barnes NSW Corps who was from Norfolk Island and his new wife Mary Ann Barnes nee Watson.

Charles Woodger was second fleet convict, who had been on Norfolk Island from 1793 – 1808.

1814 Margaret Woodghear: Free, Barwell, off stores with two children (Thomas and Charles), off stores, wife to C Woodyear. Charles died 21 March 1820 Sydney, age 66 years, buried Devonshire Street Cemetery Sydney.

In July 1817 it seems that Margaret using her original married name of Beechy, and her two sons travelled to Hobart Town:

The Governor Macquarie, request Claims against them may be presented; and those indebted to them are requested to settle the same. MARGARET BEECHY, THOS.BEECHY, and CHARLES BEECHY, leaving the Colony on the Jupiter, request Claims may be timely presented; and all those indebted are requested to settle their respective Accounts forthwith.[3]

1818 Margaret Beacchey: Abode Hobart, off stores. Margaret Beechey died 16 July 1825, age 69 years. Hobart.
