Note: One researcher gives his middle name as "Baxter", but that name belongs to his son Samuel Baxter Bonnett (1770-1840)

Samuel moved to the Cedar Creek area of Frederick County, Virginia (later Hampshire County, West Virginia). Samuel received a land patent dated 1766 for the purchase of 205 acres of land in that area. This land was sold in 1777 and the family, with the exception of their son Henry, moved over the mountains to Harrison County, (West) Virginia. He obtained a land grant there for 400 acres.

Listed in 1785 Census of Harrison County. Household of 8 at that time, which fits with the birth dates of his children (below).

Samuel died on December 17, 1789, from the fall of a tree. Burial location unknown. Note: He is not buried in Harmony Cemetery because his wife's Eliza's marker states that she was the first to be buried in Harmony Cemetery. Do not be confused by the "virtual grave" that someone created for him on FindaGrave.com.
