About Samuel Jones Boyles, Civil War veteran

Samuel was the grandson of Samuel Jones and Rebecca Lewellen Jones. His mother was Sarah E. "Sally" Jones who married 1st Joshua Boyles. This picture is thanks to Patrick Boyles. Samuel was born Jan. 21, 1835 in Marion Co.,W.V. and died in Clarksburg, Harrison Co., W.V. He was killed by a train as he worked as a watchman in the train yard. He was deaf and was on the wrong track, thinking the train was on the other track. Served in Civil War. Did his own service time and then took the place of a rich man's son. When he got out of that service, the rich man's son was called up for duty, Samuel refused to go to war again, the son had to go, and was killed shortly therafter.
