About Samuel Joseph Brewerton
Birth: Nov. 6, 1834 Harwell Nottinghamshire, England
Death: 1855 Atchison County Kansas, USA
Samuel was an unmarried son of Ann Pulley and George Sr. Brewerton of England.
He had accompanied his 60 year old mother to America with the hope of his father being able to join them shortly.
He took ill from the eidemic of cholera which overtook the encampment of LDS Saints at Mormon Grove, while they awaited departure for the Great Salt Lake Valley.
His death occurred around the second week in July, as preparations for Samuel to help Matthew Rowan drive a team had already been made.
Brother Rowen's journal indicated that he (Matthew), his wife Jane and their child, Ammon had the chholera but had rallied. His later writing confirmed the passing of young Samuel Brewerton, "A Sister Brewerton and myself being joined in company for our team, tents etc., and as her Son, Samuel, who was to assist me to drive the team across the plains, died at Mormon Grove, the business of driving the team, consisting of 3 yoke of steers besides a cow in the "loop head" devolved upon me."
