The parents of Samuel Chappell are unknown. Samuel married Dorothy Laraby/Larabee probably in New London, CT. It is known that their first three children were born in New London. They moved to Sandisfield, Berkshire, MA between June 1781 and March 1784. They had eight more children in Sandisfield. Besides the children listed below, they had a daughter Electa born 10 Jul 1795 who married Elias Orton.

GEDCOM Note

Name variously spelled Chappell, Chappel, Chapel, but Chaapel with two a's is another name entirely. By 1800 seemed to use "Chapel" more consistently.

1790 U.S. Census Massachusetts, Berkshire County, Sandisfield Samuel and Dorothy lived here with Enos, Thomas, Samuel, Lucinda, and Esther.

1800 lived at Sandisfield with wife, Thomas, Truman, Erastus, Guy, two other boys under 10; Electa and Esther.

1810 Samuel and Dorothy still live in Sandisfield with six boys and two girls. Edgecomb has left the area.

Will of Samuel Chappel dated 8 August 1816 bequeaths a life estate to his wife Dorothy. He gives his eldest son Edgecomb money in addition to land Samuel has already given him and the same to his son Enos. He gives land and money to his two sons Samuel and Thomas. He gives nothing to his son Turner because Samuel has already given him his share. Turner is also to be forgiven the notes he owes his father. His daughters, Lucinda Morgan, wife of Joseph, Esther Doud, wife of Zerah, and Electa Chappel are to receive $120 each. Electa his to be allowed to live in the family home until she marries. The home farm is given to Erastus, Guy and Ansel. Erastus also receives the bay mare and her colt. Guy is bequeathed the two year old heifer. Ansel receives a year old heifer. The residual of the estate goes to Eratus, Guy and Ansel.
