Not the same as Samuel Denton
Birth 1806
Death 1846 (aged 39–40)
Married 12/12/1833 in Telfair Co. GA; [son of John and Hannah Denton?]. He and his wife Priscilla Ward Denton died in an epidemic in Telfair Co. (this was before Coffee Co. was formed).
Samuel Denton was born around 1806 in South Carolina, a son of John Denton [1776-1830] and Hannah Anne (King) Denton [1780-1812]. He was married to Priscilla Ward [1815-1846] on 12 December 1833 in what was then Telfair County, and is now Coffee County, Georgia. To them were born five children: Joshua, Mary, John, William, and James Denton.
In 1846, while their youngest son, James, was still in infancy, both Samuel and Priscilla Denton perished in an outbreak of yellow fever in the region. They were buried in the Old Ward Cemetery,* in what is now the 'New Forest' area of Coffee County.

There has been much confusion surrounding the three different "Ward" cemeteries in Coffee County. Samuel and Priscilla Denton were buried in the "OLD Ward Cemetery," near the New Forest Highway, northeast of Douglas on Windwood Road. This is not to be confused with (1) the "Ward Cemetery," on the corner of East Ward Street and Southeast Bowens Mill Road, within the city limits of Douglas; or (2) the "Jackson Ward Cemetery," about half a mile west of West Green, in a forested area between the Broxton-West Green Highway and Joe Ellis Road.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 28 2024, 21:57:38 UTC
