About Samuel Dirk Cornelius Odendaal
Samuel left Bredasdorp because he did not want to marry "family". He trekked with a "DU TOIT" during the 1st World War through the Orange Free State and settled in Harrismith/Warden area (?). Du Toit left and joined the "Rebellion of 1914". Samuel then moved to Natal & went to work for the Bezuidenhout's (?) on their farm in Northern Natal. There he met their niece (?) Andries Stephanus du Plessis (baptised as Andri Stefanie- but called ANDRE) and married her. In 1943 he bought Nondweni Farm No 9, Zululand. (Plot 297 of Nondweni Dorp) in the Nqutu district of Northern Natal. In 1963 it was bought by the South African National Trust for their homelands policy for the Zulu tribe. He then retired and lived in Pietermaritzburg with his wife. She died first in 1972.
He died in his sleep in 1975 while visiting his daughter, Bessie in Port Shepstone.
