He married (1) HANNAH CORBIN January 08, 1745/46 in Dudley, Worcester Co., Massachusetts, daughter of CLEMENT CORBIN and HANNAH MORRIS.
He married (2) LUCY SMITH Abt. 1774 in Chesterfield, New Hampshire .
Removed when a young man to Dudley, Mass., where he lived for a number of years, and then moved to Killingly, Conn., where he was interested in large land speculations, and became identified with the affairs of the county. During the trying years of the French and Indian Wars, he took an active part in the military service. In the Colonial Records of Connecticut, we find that "in 1757 he was appointed Lieutenant of the 18th Co., or train band in the 11th regiment."

Miss Ellen M. Larned, in her excellent history of Windham County, Conn., says, "through these gloomy years," speaking of the French and Indian wars of 1754-1760, "Windham Co. bore her part with unshaken courage and fidelity; the names of many sons of the leading families appear among the officers and soldiers." Samuel Fairbanks, of Killingly, was one of the captains. Returning to Dudley, he joined the Congregational Church, Oct. 28, 1764, and was chorister of the church for several years. Some time after 1770, he removed to Chesterfield, and in 1776 signed the "Association Test." He was one of the Town Committee of Safety, and appears to have been one of the most zealous patriots of the town. In 1777 he was a selectman. He was a scythe manufacturer. His will was made Aug. 9, 1787, and proved June 16, 1790. He bequeathed all his property to his wife Lucy, "for to enable her to support the children she had by me," and named his son Zenas as sole executor of the will. A petition for Letters of Administration, by Richar d Hopkins, upon the estate of Lucy Fairbanks, widow of Samuel, Sen., filed Oct. 24, 1802, states that he married the oldest daughter of said Lucy, and that he desired the appointment of his brother-in-law, Capt. Zenas Fairbanks, as administrator.

(26), Samuel IV, Jonathan III, George II, Jonathan I.

Born in Sherborn, Mass., July 21, 1720; removed when a young man to Dudley, Mass., where he l ived for a number of years, and then moved to Killingly, Conn., where he was interested in la rge land speculations, and became identified with the affairs of the county. During the trying years of the French and Indian Wars, he took an active part in the military service. In the Colonial Records of Connecticut, we find that "in 1757 he was appointed Lieutenant of th e 18th Co., or train band in the 11th regiment." Miss Ellen M. Larned, in her excellent hist ory of Windham County, Conn., says, "through these gloomy years," speaking of the French an d Indian wars of 1754-1760, "Windham Co. bore her part with unshaken courage and fidelity; th e names of many sons of the leading families appear among the officers and soldiers." Samuel Fairbanks, of Killingly, was one of the captains. Returning to Dudley, he joined the Congregational Church, Oct. 28, 1764, and was chorister of the church for several years. His son s Levi, Zenas and Ebenezer were all baptized on Nov. 4, 1764.

Some time after 1770, he removed to Chesterfield, and in 1776 signed the "Association Test. " He was one of the Town Committee of Safety, and appears to have been one of the most zealo us patriots of the town. In 1777 he was a selectman. He was a scythe manufacturer.

He died Apr. 14, 1790, aged 69 yrs. 8 mos. 23 ds. His will was made Aug. 9, 1787, and proved June 16, 1790. He bequeathed all his property to his wife Lucy, "for to enable her to support the children she had by me," and named his son Zenas as sole executor of the will.

day of birth from the files of Sharon Corbin Murray (sharon@edgenet.net), years confirmed b y DAR Vol 45, page 63: Samuel was a signer of Association Test and chairman of the Committee of Safety of Chesterfield. He was born in Sherborn,Mass and died in Chesterfield, New Hampshire. Obvious discrepancy with FFOW which lists the death at Framingham, Middlesex, Massachusetts. NSDAR Vol 116 also confirms years, lists Zenas (b. 1752) as son of Hannah Corbin, putting to question the marriage to Hepzibah Nixon. name spelled Samuell Jr. in Dudley, Massachusetts Vital Records - to the year 1850 listing under birth of son Jonas his baptismal date.

One record shows Hepzibah Nixon as mother of Zenas and of a daughter Hannah, born 1751. It further shows a Mary -----, as mother of Levi, Ebenezer, Uri, Iri, Samuel and Zaccheus. Of those, Hannah and Zaccheus are not recorded as children of Samuel. The difficulty is exacerbated by L. S. Fairbanks who lists Samuel (96) with the same parentage as Samuel (64), their births varying by about two years. To this second Samuel (96) he lists marriages to Hepzibah N xon and Mary (Eames) Frizzell, whom he says married (2) John Shattuck. However, the (Eames ) would indicate a maiden name or another married name, and her marriage to Samuel would be # 2 at best. Of this union, he lists Hannah, Samuel (225) and Zaccheus. Those two Samuels (6 4 & 96) cannot have the same parentage, i.e. Samuel IV, Jonathan III, George II, Jonathan I . On the first he lists the (26) numeral of the father's identification, while on the other he lists an enigmatic ( ), which would indicate he too was confused on this point.

MEM. A petition for Letters of Administration, by Richard Hopkins, upon the estate of Lucy F airbanks, widow of Samuel, Sen., filed Oct. 24, 1802, states that he married the oldest daugh ter of said Lucy, and that he desired the appointment of his brother-in-law, Capt. Zenas Fair banks, as administrator.

He married I Hannah Corbin, in Dudley, Jan. 8, 1745-6. She died -----.

He married II, Lucy Smith, of Chesterfield, who died Sept. 20, 1802.
