Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 15 June 1900 "Mr. S. A. Fogg, one of the best known men in the county, died at his home in Canfield at 10'clock Monday morning. He had not been well for sometime but was confined to his bed less than a week. The immediate cause of his death was Bright's disease. Mr. Fogg was born in Berlin township in 1845, and was therefore 55 years of age. He worked upon a farm and attended district school until 18 years old. At the call for volunteers he enlisted in the service of his country, serving in Co. G., 155 OVI. After the close of the war he attended school in Poland and Salem, working out by the month to pay his way. He afterwards taught school in Berlin, Goshen and Smith townships. In 1869 he was appointed station agent at Garfield, and in connection with the office successfully conducted a general store for ten years. He at one time was largely engaged in buying and shipping cattle to East Liberty. Early in 1885 he purchased the Rose Coal Farm at Rosemont and until his removal to Canfield four years ago was largely engaged in the coal business and breeding fancy horses and cattle. He was raised a Republican and was a most energetic worker in that party until 1896 when he came out for Bryan and free silver. He held many local offices of honor and trust. For many years he was a member of the board of County Fair managers. The deceased was an honored member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias and Grand Army of the Republic. He leaves a widow and one daughter, Miss Ada, who have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow. Funeral services held in the Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon were very largely attended. Dr. Dickson and Rev. McGaha officiated. North Jackson Lodge of Knights of Pythias, of which the deceased was a member attended in body, marching at the head of the procession to the village cemetery where the remains were laid to rest."
