From the linked book: "It is related of him that during the period of the witchcraft excitement in Salem one of his daughters became infected with the prevailing epidemic and began to 'cry out' against some person as bewitching her, whereupon her father is said to have taken her out to the barn and administered wholesome punishment and thus ended all further trouble so far as concerned his own family."

Thomas Goldthwaite (ca. 1610-1683) is believed to have arrived in New England from England in 1630. He was living at Roxbury in 1632 and at Salem in 1636. He and his wife, Elizabeth, had three children, 1637-1642. He died at Salem. His grandson (son), Samuel Goldthwaite (1637-1718) of Salem, and his wife, Elizabeth Cheever (1645-ca. 1726), had ten children, 1667-1688.
