About Capt Samuel Griffith, I

Parents UNKNOWN. He is yet another case of "We don't know who his ancestors were, but at least we know his descendants". Probably born in Wales; almost certainly not connected to the nobility.

Certainly not the son of Sir Henry Griffith, 2nd (and LAST) Baronet of Burton Agnes! Sir Henry had NO SURVIVING SONS! Any attempt whatsoever to connect Samuel Griffith to him is junk genealogy.

There were early Griffith settlers in Maryland possibly by 1651 (Samuel Griffith) and more definitely by 1675 esource: http://www.selectsurnames2.com/griffiths.html

Settlers by the Long Grey Trail: Some Pioneers to Old Augusta ... books.google.com/books?isbn=0806306645 John Houston Harrison - 1935 - ŽReference May 29, 1850), and wife Charity Ann, nee Comly, of Gunpowder, Maryland. ... Elizabeth White (1708-1769), of Cool Springs Manor, Prince George County, ... 1752), and granddaughter of Samuel Griffith, immigrant to Calvert County, Maryland from Wales.
