William Gwinn was born on October 3, 1812, in Monroe, Virginia, the child of Moses Gwinn and Elizabeth Wilson. He married Sarah Hedrick on 19 Mar 1846 and they had three children together Louisa (1847), Harvey L (1849)and Jeannetta Elizabeth (1851). Sarah died on the 28th of June of 1853. He then married Mary Richmond on 14 Dec 1853 and they had 9 children together between 1854 and 1875. Margaret E (1854), Virginia A (1856), Sarah Estaline (1857), William A (1860), Cynthia Catherine (1862), Samuel H (1865), John Marshal (1868), Mary Malinda (1872), and Joseph Everett (1875). His wife Mary died on Feb 3, 1899 and William died on August 10, 1901, in Summers County, West Virginia, having lived a long life of 88 years, and was buried in Meadow Creek, West Virginia.
