About Samuel Wilburn McClellan

Samuel was eight years old when his parents joined the Church and moved to Nauvoo. When the saints were driven out, his family went with them as far as Council Bluffs where they stayed until his father returned from the march with the Mormon Battalion.

After they reached the Valley in 1850, the family settled in Payson, Utah. Samuel was 22 when he married Mary. She died seven months later. A year later he married again and they lived in Payson, Utah. With his father and older brother William, Samuel went to meet the Murdock emigration company.

Samuel was a skilled carpenter, built his own home and helped with others. He made some of their furniture still used today. He was involved with much of the building in the community. He was a councilman and helped with the planning of the community. He was noted for his generosity, kindness and fairness. He retired from farming five years before his death.
