Civil War Time Frame: Apr. 12, 1861-Apr 26, !865 Conscription 1863
He married an unknown spouse about 1868-69 and had a daughter Annie about 1869.
Sometime between 1869 and 1875 he migrated to Kansas. On the other hand, his CW records show he was mustered out in Philadelphia in 1868. Was he in Leavenworth Prison for desertion then released in 1868 and stayed there?
His wife died about 1879. He is not listed in the 1870 Census of Smith Co., KS. In the 1880 Census he is listed as a widow in Smith Co.
He returned to Pennsylvania sometime between 1880 and 1900 and is found living single in Barnett Twp., Forrest Co., working in a logging camp.
He died in 1904 in Fisher, Clarion, Co., PA

"4...In accordance with instructions from the Adjutant General's Office, endorsed upon the papers in his case, Private Samuel Newhouse, of Company "H." 14th Regiment Pennsylvania Cavalry, will be dishonorably discharged the service as of date-October 29, 1865- with the loss of all pay, bounty and allowances.

It has been determined that the action of the Comdg. General. Department of the East purporting to dishonorably discharge this man, to date October 29, 1865, - was taken under misapprehension of the powers of the military authorities in such cases, that the same is void and without effect, and that the final record of this soldier is that of a deserter."
