"(III) Samuel Osborne, eldest child of William and Hannah (Burton) Osborne, was born in Salem, April 27, 1675, and died about 1750. He married first, Ellinor Southwick, who was born June 25, 1674, died 10 mo. 26 d. 1702, daughter of Daniel and Esther (Boyce) Southwick, and granddaughter of Lawrence and Cassandra Southwick. Lawrence Southwick came in the "Mayflower" in 1629; was made freeman in Salem in 1639; had land given him in 1637; was a glassblower by trade, although a farmer by principal occupation. In the same year the town made grants of land to the "glassmen," and in 1641 the general court voted that if the town of Salem would loan the glassmen the sum of thirty pounds it would be repaid out of the next rate and the glassmen should repay the town the sum advanced them "if the works succeed, when they are able." How long this primitive industry was maintained does not appear, but it was operated for some time, and probably was the first of its kind in the country. In 1658 Goodman Southwick and his wife Cassandra and their son Josiah were imprisoned for being Quakers, and were confined in the Boston jail twenty weeks. They frankly admitted that they were Friends, and were fined, but being unable to pay were subsequently released and banished from the colony. Samuel Osborne married second, 6 mo. 30 d. 1705, Sarah, daughter of Abraham Clark, of Oyster River. He had four children by each wife: 1. Samuel, born 2nd mo. 4th d., 1697. 2. Elizabeth, 1st mo. 14th d. 1699. 3. Hannah, 11th mo. 14th d. 1700. 4. Joseph, 10th mo. 26th d. 1702. 5. Thomas, 4th mo. 1st d. 1706. 6. Sarah, 11th mo. 4th d. 1707. 7. Mary, 7th mo. 27th d. 1709. 8. Isaac, 2nd mo. 13th d., 1711."[2] Samuell was born in 1675. He passed away in 1744. Residence New York, USA. [3]
