About Samuel Oxford, Sr.

Children of John Oxford (Hoxford) and Sainty Jay:

Samuel Oxford (Sr.) (1696-1773) (Married Mary Brown.) In 1752 Samuel Oxford (Sr) migrated with two of his sons John (1731-1778) and Samuel (Jr.) (1742-1811) to North Carolina. Samuel Oxford (Jr) is the most well known of the Oxfords. He was the Samuel who married Bathsheba Barrett, operated a ferry at Oxford Ford NC, and had nine children most of whom moved west to Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, and Arkansas. One son of Samuel (Jr) was James Oxford (1768-1846), who married Hannah Barnes (1778-1849) and was the only Oxford son to remain in North Carolina.
