Biography

Samuel Read of Mendon was born in 1635 at Rehoboth, Massachusetts.4,5 He was the son of John Read of Dorchester and Sarah Lessie.1,2,3

Samuel Read of Mendon was one of the first proprietors of the town, granted a thirty acre lot after 15 May 1667 at Mendon, Massachusetts.6

He married Hopestill Holbrook, daughter of Captain William Holbrooke of Weymouth and Elizabeth Pitts, on 10 May 1668 at Weymouth, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.7,8,9,10

Samuel Read of Mendon was a grantee of land by the indians, John & Amos Awasamog, heirs of John Awasamog on 19 February 1691/92 at Mendon, Massachusetts.11 He left a will on 5 April 1717 at Mendon, Massachusetts.12 He died on 5 April 1717 at Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts, at age 82 years.7,1
