About Samuel Henry Russell
East India Company Officer (~9 years; 1801-1810) Originally apprenticed to William Faden (map dealer and cartographer) Charing Cross, he sailed at the age of 20 to India to take up a cadetship in the East India Company's Corps of Engineers (Madras). He resigned 12 January 1810 but stayed in India (Hyderabad) where he designed the British Residency and other Public Works. He then joined the Mercantile House of William Palmer and Company at Hyderabad. Made a lot of money then left in 1813 returning to England. Married Cecil Charlotte Pemberton in 1816. A memorial plaque for him is in the church in Shepperton where he was a benefactor.
