Ancestor of Joseph Smith, the prophet of the Mormon Church. 9 children.
W.G. Davis 1927, The Ancestry of Lieut. Amos Towne 1737-1793 of Arundel (Kennebunkport), Maine, pp. 27 and 33-34. Born Rowley Village before its name was changed to Boxford. Was a carpenter. Served as tythingman in 1727; fenceviewer 1730; and constable 1733. Confused with another Samuel Smith, son of William Smith, who lived over the Ipswich border but attended church in Topsfield.
GenServe files, 23 July 1998: ILIFTO1; SHUO6JA; ALDB7KB; CANC6GA; CRAA6HB; and SMIA7MT.
GenServe file CANC6GA, 30 July 1998. Sarah Curtis, 20 January 1688 - 2 March 1753, given as wife of Samuel Smith. And GenServe file CRAA6HB, 30 July 1998. Sarah Curtis, 1675/6 -after 1718, married Samuel Smith 12 May 1696. This appear to be confusions (see above) with the second Samuel Smith.
GenServe file SHUO6JA appears to confuse three Samuel Smiths, with marriages to Sarah Curtis, Rebecca Curtis, and Phebe Howe.
