Born 1st March, 1805. Of Capenoch, Thornhill, Dumfriesshire. Cotton and Produce Broker in Liverpool, with property in Victoria, Australia. Retired from business 1851. Died at Nice, 25th May, 1882. Brother of 11174 [William Gladstone, 1809 - 1873]; cousin of 10695 [Robert Gladstone, 1805 - 1875]; and of the Right Hon. William Ewart Gladstone; father of Robert Gladstone, J.P., Chairman of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board, and of Samuel Stewart Gladstone, J.P., Director of the Bank of England.
