Samuel STICKNEY's life

Served as a private from Rowley 1755; in Third Foot Co of Newbury 1757; as aprivate from Haverhill in the Canada expedition 1758 and until the reduction of Canada; nine months service from Andover in 1778, "aged 43, light complexion, stature 5 ft 8 in". Lived in Haverhill, Andover, Leominster, and Jaffrey, N. H. where he lived 30 years, then to Dublin, N. H and Windsor, Vt. Was in old French War, one of 3 who escaped the massacre at Bloody Pond,near Fort William Henry, Lake George; they escaped to Fort Edward, 20 miles.

{Daughters of the American Revolution membership for ALL of his female descendants is based on Samuel's service.} Samuel's Revolutionary War Record as as follows: "Andover. Descriptive list of men raised to serve in the Continental Army for the term of 9 months, agreeable to resolve of April 26 [20], 1778, dated Andover, June 2, 1778; Capt. Holt's co., Col. Johnson's (4th Essex Co.) regt.; age, 43 yrs,; stature, 5 ft. 8 in.; complexion, light; residence, Andover; engaged for town of Andover, also, list of men raised in Essex Co., for the term of 9 months from the time of their arrival at Fishkill, returned as received of Jonathan Warner, Commissioner, by Col. R. Putnam, July 20, 1778, arrived at Fishkill June 11, 1778; also, list of men returned as mustered by Henry Rutgers, Jr., Deputy Muster Master, dated Fishkill, Aug. 1, 1778. [Mass. Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution, Vol 15, p. 11].

He lived in Haverhill, Andover, Leominster, and Jaffrey, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, where he resided about thirty years, then removed to Dublin, N.H., and from there to Windsor, Vermont, where he died, March 20, 1829. He had eleven children.
