About Samuel Stiles
Samuel immigrated to Australia with his first wife Jane and six children aboard the "Great Queensland" in 1875. They disembarked in Maryborough, Queensland, then travelled further north to Bundaberg where they settled in Woondooma Street.
They had another four children before Jane died after an accidental fall at home. Samuel returned to England, but came out again to Australia and married Emily Dyer in Brisbane in 1891. Samuel and Emily had another family, and had certainly returned to the Woondooma street address by 1915, when Samuel's sixth child, Bertie Thomas, nominated him as his next of kin on enlisting in the First AIF.
