- "Son of Hugh Thomson and Jane Boyd, Samuel Boyd Thomson was a builder and architect in New York City and most noted as the designer of the old U.S. Customs House, later called Federal Hall, as well as the Portico Place constructed in 1847. He served as an early director of the Merchants Exchange Bank and was involved in the establishment of the New York Life and Trust Company in which he was a trustee until his death in 1850. he married Ann Strean, daughter of Archibald Strean and Ann Phillips, on February 2nd 1807. Together they had ten children:
