About Samuel Weed
According to public records the state of Connecticut, Samuel Weed of Derby along with Daniel Tucker and Nathaniel Wooster in 1746 were arrested for counterfeiting. Weed and Tucker confessed to the charge while Wooster was found guilty by trial. Samuel Weed by pleading guilty to the charge was sentenced to prison in Hartford and had to forfeit all property real and personal. To add misery to this, his wife Sarah Richardson died in 1748 while Samuel was still in prison. When Samuel was sentenced Sarah returned to her childhood home of Waterbury, CT. Samuel was released in 1749 and was paroled with the knowledge that he could never leave Hartford, County. If eh left Hartford County and was caught, he was to be whipped 10 times and returned to prison. In 1750 Samuel violated his parole by leaving Hartford County and was caught. It was assumed he had left because of his older son Samuel's death. There is no record of whether he was whipped or sent back to prison. Also no record on when the elder Samuel Weed died. But he must have died between 1760 and 1767.
In 1752 Samuel remarried and had four children.
