Samuel later married Anna Christina Petersen on 21 October 1872 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had eight children: Ole Able, Anna Laura, Margaret Maren, James Alfred, Bertha Charlotte, Mary Inger, Ross Ernest, and Helen Mar. Samuel farmed in Iowa and Utah.
