They had twelve children: Malinda, Lucy, Sarah Jane, John Dingman, Asenath Viola, Adam, Samuel Allen, Joseph, Silas McCaslin, Phoebe Roseltha, Boyd Extine, and David Alerman. Samuel later married Anna Christina Petersen on 21 October 1872 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had eight children: Ole Able, Anna Laura, Margaret Maren, James Alfred, Bertha Charlotte, Mary Inger, Ross Ernest, and Helen Mar. Samuel farmed in Iowa and Utah.
