Sanford Wells (1914 - 1987)

Fernie Wells, 73, Lowell, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a long illness.

Mr. Wells was born August 21, 1914, at Galena. He was a lifetime resident of the area. He worked for the Cherokee County Highway Department as a mechanic.

He married Clara Lemme on April 29, 1935 at Galena. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, John Wells, Galena; a daughter, Beverly Warstler, Oklahoma City, Okla.; three brothers, Fred Wells, Jr. and Bill Wells, both of Crestline and Lee Wells, Bethany, Okla.; two sisters, Edna Mosier, Crestline, and Nadine Sears, Shawnee; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Riverton. Burial will be in Lowell Cemetery. Rev. Roy Moody and Roy Derfelt will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena.
