About Sarah Anna West Crandall
In the 1880 U.S. Federal Census for Parowan, Iron County, Utah, Sarah was 11 years old and living with her mother, Betsy Jane Fish West, 44, and brothers, John Anderson West, Jr., 15, and Erastus Horace, 13. Her father, John Anderson West, was a LDS polygamist and at the time was living with his plural wife, Mary Jane Robinson West. who he married in about 1865.
Previously in the 1870 census, John Anderson West, Sr., 39, and his plural wife, Mary Jane Robinson West, 21, were also living in Parowan, Iron County, Utah, along with the following children: Elizabeth, 9, Nanette, 11, Martha J., 11, (relationship to these 3 girls is unknown), John A., 4, Samuel Ezra West, 4, John and Mary Jane's first born child, and their two youngest children, Joseph Anderson West, 2, and William Heber West, 10 months old.
While Sarah's father, John Anderson West, was living with his plural wife, Mary Jane, in 1870 Parowan, Utah, Sarah Ann, who was one year old, was living with her maternal grandparents, her mother and siblings, in the same town. They were listed in the 1870 census as follows: Horace Fish, 72, and his wife, Hannah, 65, (Betsy's parents) Betsy Jane, 34, and her children, Elizabeth J., 10, John Anderson, 6, Horace Erastus, 3, and Sarah Ann, 1 year old. Her daughter, Margaret Hannah, having already passed away at the age of 4 in May of 1866. In the census their last name was shown as Fish instead of West, probably since Betsy and John were separated at the time.
Sarah's maternal grandfather, Horace Fish, passed away in July of 1870, and his wife passed away six years later in November of 1876. Ten years later, Sarah married David Delos Crandall, October 15, 1886, in Logan, Cache, Utah. David's headstone gives their marriage year as 1896, but according to the marriage record, that year is incorrect. Their first child was Nellie Jane, born in 1887, and she was followed by Ernest Delos, Horace Anderson, Edward Thompson, Maud and Bessie.
By the 1900 census, Sarah, 31, and husband Delos D., 41, and their children, Nellie J., 12, Ernest Delos, 9, Horace Anderson, 6, Edward Thompson, 3, and Maud, 8 months old, were living in Huntington, Emery, Utah, with her mother, Betsy, 63, and brother, John Anderson West, Jr., 35. The census record showed that Sarah and David Delos Crandall had been married for 14 years and they had given birth to 5 children.
Sarah died just 17 days after the birth of her 6th child, Bessie, born November 26, 1901. Sarah was buried in Emmett, Canyon, Idaho. The cemetery name is unknown. Emmett was in Canyon County in 1901.

The funeral took place Sunday. The baby is bright and healthy and is being cared for by its grandmother, Mrs. John West.
