Biography

Sarah Hoyt was born at Amesbury, Massachusetts on May 4, 1698, daughter of Thomas Hoyt and his first wife Elizabeth Huntington. [1] [2]

Sarah married Joseph Bartlett at Amesbury, Massachusetts on April 27, 1721, as his second wife. [1] [2] [3] Joseph was born at Newbury on November 18, 1686, son of Richard Bartlett and Hannah Emery. [4]

Their children were born at Amesbury, Massachusetts, [1] and the family settled at Newton, New Hampshire. [5]

Joseph died on January 1, 1754 at Newton, New Hamshire. [6] In the rear of the Town Hall at , Newton are the graves of Joseph Bartlett and many members of his family, including wife Sarah His inscription reads: In memory of Joseph Bartlett Esq. First Capt of the Town & many years a Deacon in the Church of Christ who died Feb. 1, 1754 in the 68th Year of his Age. [5]

Widow Sarah died on May 28, 1787 and is buried with Joseph in the Old Town Cemetery, at Newton where her inscription reads: In Memory of Mrs. Sarah Bartlett wife of Joseph Bartlett Esq. who died May 28, 1787 in the 90 year of her age [7]
