Sarah Brown, a cousin of Moses Brown and John Brown of the prominent Brown family and founders of Brown University of Providence. Her husband, Jabez Bowen, was deeply involved with the Brown's in the shipping business, involving slaves, molasses, rum, and the China trade.

Sarah Brown and husband Jabez Bowen had 11 children together.
