Sarah [Elliott] Monroe

Sarah FOXHALL was born in 1665. According to George H.S. King of Fredericksburg, VA,

Sarah gave a deposition in 1736 when she stated that she was 71 years of age. She was sued in Aug 1711 in WestmorelandCo, VA. "Jordon Weedon in behalf of Martha his wife one of the daughters of John Elliott, gentl. deced preferred his petition to this Court against Andrew Monroe gentl: and Sarah his wife Extrs. of the said John Elliott for that part of the Estate of the sd jno. which of right belongs to her the sd. Martha Whereupon It is ordered the Sheriff Doe Sumon the said Andrew & Sarah to be (present) at next Court to be held for this County to answer the same..."

She signed a will on 26 Jul 1739 in WestmorelandCo, VA.

• To my Son, John Elliott, one Negro man named Phillip, my Silver Baker and large Iron Pott and what Wheat, Corn & tobacco I have growing or otherwise..
• To my Daughter in Law, Sybellah Elliott, my piece of black calemanco,
• To my Grandson, John Elliott, my Negro boy named George, one new bed and bolster and one pair of holland sheets,
• To my Grandson, Foxhall Sturman, my Negro girl named Rose,
• To my Grandson, Spence Monroe, 12/ current money to buy him a mourning ring.
• To Mr. Whorton Ransdell 3 shillings to bye him a pair of gloves,
• To my Loving Daughter, Sarah Ransdell, all my wearing apparell and my large Trunk,
• The remainder of my personal Estate, one half to my loving Son, John Elliott, and the other half to be equally divided among my five Grand Children, viz. Elizabeth Sturman, Sarah Sturman, Martha Sturman, Thomas Ransdell & Sarah Elliott Ransdell. And I do appoint my loving Son, John Elliott my Executor of this my last Will and Testament." She died after 26 Jul 1739 in WestmorelandCo, VA. She was married to Andrew MONROE [MUNROE] after 1708.

Andrew MONROE [MUNROE] signed a will on 30 Dec 1713 in estmorelandCo, VA. MUNROE, ANDREW, gent., 30 Dec. 1713; 9 June 1714.

• Land to son Spence; brother William Munroe; son Andrew land and negro woman;
• dau. Susannah Munroe one negro boy, 2 cows, 2 steers, household furniture and 10,000 lbs. of tobacco;
• to Andrew son of my brother William 1 horse, 1 feather bed and furniture;
• dau. Elizabeth Arrington and her son John 1 cow. 1 feather bed and 5,000 lbs. tobacco;
• my wife Sarah; son in law William Elliott 1 mare;
• daus. in law Elizabeth & Sarah Elliott horse and cow;
• to Thomas Mustin one coat;
• friends Charles Tyler and Richard Watts and brother William Munroe, exrs;
• son Spence negro given him by his grandmother Jordan;
• to two sons 9 negroes.

He died after 30 Dec 1713.35

She was married to John ELLIOTT (son of John ELLIOTT) before Sep 1685 in VA. John ELLIOTT was born before 1665. He served as a Justice in 1699 in WestmorelandCo, VA.

Caleb Butler, husband of Sarah Foxhall and father-in-law of Augustine Washington, served with John Elliott in 1699 as Justice of WestmorelandCo. John Elliott was listed as a public officer in WestmorelandCo 8 June 1699 and a Justice of the Peace in a 18 July 1702 list of civil officers. He was a member of the Commission of the Peace on 28 Jun 1699 in VA. He served as a Justice in 1702 in WestmorelandCo, VA.

John Elliott's will mentions his sons John and William and his wife Sara. John owned a considerable amount of land, and his estate was valued at 22,920 lbs. of tobacco.

• John leaves to his son John Elliott all his land which is called Pang Golio;
• to his son William his land he bought of John Butler "if it please God it be recovered";
• Nichl. Mewes to have the house which he hat built and ground to tend for himself for corn and tobo. for three or four years till he settle himself".
• His loving wife Sara Elliott the whole and sole Extx. His will was recorded 9 Jan 1707.

John Elliott names his two sons, John and William, only; but two daughters, Mary Elliott, who m. Nicholas Mewes (Muse), and Martha Elliott, who m. Jordon Weedon (gr. son of Patrick and Dorcas Spence) are named in the will of their uncle, John Foxall; and two others, Sarah and Elizabeth Elliott, are named in the will of their step-father, Col. Andrew Monroe, Sarah (Foxall) Elliott's second husband.

She married Andrew Monroe II 1708 in Westmoreland Co. VA, son of Andrew Monroe and Elizabeth Alexander. He was born ABT 1661 in Westmoreland Co. VA, and died 1714 in Westmoreland Co. VA.

5. Sarah Elliott (Sarah Foxhall, John Foxhall, Ambrose Foxhall) was born ABT 1688, and died BEF 1797. She married William Sturman, son of John Sturman and Elizabeth Spence. She married Wharton Ransdell, son of Edward Ransdell and Mary Gorham. He was born 1695 in Westmoreland Co. VA, and died 25 Apr 1758 in Westmoreland Co. VA.
