About Sarah Fleet
She married a Tomlin, but was widowed young. Captain William Fleet married a "pretty little widow" Mrs. Sarah Browne Tomlin."Virginia Colonial Abstracts, Vol. II" (p. 478) She and William lived at "Rural Felicity" and later at "Goshen". Their children include:
Doctor Christopher B. Fleet, Colonel Alexander Fleet, Mary Hill, Priscilla Brooke, Dorothy Ann , Susan, Elizabeth Catherine, William, Sarah Browne, Captain James Robert Fleet, Sr., Martha Ellen, William Charles, Lucy and Dr. Benjamin Robert Fleet, Sr.
The will of her grandmother Priscilla Brooke Browne who died in 1785 left her a legacy of one thousand pounds sterling and three slaves named Joe, Phillis and Ned.
Will of her grandmother Sarah Thacker Campbell dated 12 April 1796 states - "3'dly I bequeath to my granddaughter Sally Fleet the bed and furniture which I usually lie on and the bedstead also and mean the furniture which may be most commonly used with the bed at time of my decease, that is to say the sheets, balnkets and counterpaine, also my press which commonly stands in the passage, being black walnut and my two silver salt cellars and shovels and my view glass and the prints commonly viewed by the glass." (Virginia Colonial Abstracts, Vol. II p. 209)
She died when her fourteenth child, Benjamin, was born. Buried in "Goshen" cemetery. Her inscription reads - "Sacred to the memory of Sarah Fleet the beloved consort of William Fleet who departed this life on the 27th of January 1818 in the 42nd year of her age.
