SARAH NORDIN

SARAH (HOFER) NORDIN January 3, 1931 May 27, 2013 On Monday, at her home and after a long illness, Sarah Nordin fulfilled her heartfelt desire and went to be with her Lord. One of her favourite hymns expresses her lifelong faith: How Beautiful Heaven Must Be. Sarah was born in Rosedale Colony, Elie, MB to Paul and Susie Hofer, second in a family of 13. She is survived by her siblings Paul (Katie), Lena, Katie, Susie (Chris), Joe (Irene), Judy, Becky, Ann, Dave (Mary), Hannah (Ralph), Lisa (Ed), and sister-in-law Diane Hofer. She was predeceased by her husband Bruce her parents, her brother Tom, and brothers-in-law Bill, Simon and Dick. In 1968 Sarah left Fairholme Colony and moved to Winnipeg. She completed her training for nursing and practiced her profession for many years, mostly at the Municipal Hospitals. In 1974 she married Bruce Nordin of Winnipeg who cared for and loved her and she him. When Bruce became ill she cared for him at home for many years. She and Bruce loved their little dog, "Snoopela." She was also the primary care giver to our parents who lived in her home. Sarah had many gifts and succeeded at whatever she took on. In her younger years she sewed clothing for the whole family. Not only did she pass her nursing course, she passed her driving test on the first try. She loved singing and harmonizing and had an ear for just the right pitch, and knew many verses from memory. In fact, Sarah helped to begin the long tradition of Hofer family singing which is carried on still today. She loved growing her flowers and garden, and was determined to cook healthfully. She loved reading and sharing her books. In any large family, the eldest daughter becomes a real aide to the parents, especially the mother. Sarah was that person who most closely assisted our mother. There is no one in our family, who has not been blessed by Sarah's generous spirit, and many outside of it as well. She loved the idea from John Maxwell that encourages us to treat people like a 10 if you want their best. Rather than judging someone, focus on a strength. Sarah responded to love and frequently could be heard to say, "You are so loving, God bless you my dear." When asked what it was like to care for her, one of her dear care givers said, "It is a pleasure. She smiles, does not complain and loves." As is said in 1Corinthians 13:13 "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." She was a devoted member of the Trinity Baptist Church for many years. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful work of care givers for Sarah. Although many were involved, special thanks go to: the primary person, Rebecca Hofer Grouette, as well as Catherine Ann Hofer and Chris and Susie Dornn. May you be held. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing to honour Sarah in some way, may give to a charity of their choice A wake will be held at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Thursday, May 30 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The memorial service for Sarah will take place on Tuesday, June 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 549 Gertrude Avenue.
