Thomas Andrew alias Anderson was sentenced to death, commuted to life, for stealing sheep at Oxford Lent Assizes on 6 Mar 1805. His wife Sarah and two sons Thomas aged 1 and James aged 3 accompanied him aboard the ship 'Alexander' which arrived in the colony 20 Aug 1806

Thomas does not appear in the various early musters and the 1828 Census so its reasonable to conclude he died not long after arrival. A search of the official NSW BDM Indexes led to a St Phillip’s Church burial entry of a Thomas Andrews on 5 October 1806. However this man is not our Thomas, as he was a resident in Pitts Row, Sydney, prior to the arrival of the Alexander. Sarah is listed as a widow in 1814, and there are no other likely burial entries between 1806 and 1814. There is a possibilty that Thomas died during the voyage but this has not been clarified.

Sarah married Thomas Anderson c.1800 in England . Thomas was convicted for stealing sheep in 1805. He was transported to the Colony of New South Wales in 1806 on the ship Alexander accompanied by his wife Sarah and 2 children James aged 3 and Thomas aged 2. Early musters of the colony do not show Thomas so it is assumed he died on the voyage or not long after arrival.

Sarah then becomes a partner of Bryan Overend and had 2 children to him, William in 1808 and Elizabeth in 1809.They separate in 1810 when Bryan marries a Catherine McNulty.

Then Sarah appears to become a partner of John Anderson and has 2 children , John in1811 and (our) Sarah in 1815.

It is not known what happened to John for I believe Sarah then became a partner to John Curran who came out on the same ship (Glatten) as John Anderson. They had a child Mary in 1820. John Dies in 1820.

By the time of the 1822 Muster , It appears that Sarah and her children (except William) have taken the name of her last partner Curran. The list as follows :

Sarah Curran - Came free - Alexander - Widow

Thomas Curran (18) - Came free - Alexander - Child of Widow

Sarah Curran (7) - Born in Colony - Child of Widow

Mary Curran (2) - Born in Colony - Child of Widow

John Curran (10) - Born In Colony - Orphan - Orphan School Sydney

William Anderson (13) - Born in Colony - Orphan - Orphan School Sydney

From the Colonial Secretaries Records Sarah had William in 1818 and John in 1821 , admitted to the Male Ophan School. In 1823 our young Sarah is admitted to the Female Orphan School Parramatta. It must have been tough times in the Colony in the early 1800's.

There are no further listings of Sarah after the 1825 Muster. I do not know what happened to her or when or where she Died.
