Life Sketch

In 1679, he was living about a half mile above Raritan Landing, outside Piscataway.Not much else is known about him, with the exception that in 1713 he was commissioned an Ensign of the Piscataway Military Company No. 4, Col. Thomas Farmer's Regiment of New Jersey militia.

Benjamin died in Piscataway in 1733. His will, dated 7 June 1731, was probated on 4 January 1733; so his death must have occurred sometime in between. His will provided:

The Will of Ensign Benjamin Hull, Jr

"In the name of God Amen the Seventh day of June in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven hundred thirty one.I Benjamin Hull of Piscadua in the County of Midelsx and Province of New Jersey Yeoman being of perfect mind and memory but calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is Appointed for all men once to die do make and Ordain this my last will and testament.First of all I give & recommend my Soul to God that gave it and for my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors.And as touching Such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me withall in this life I give devise and dispose of the Same in the following manner & form. Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Wife Sarah Hull after all my debts and funeral Charges are Fully Satisfied and paid one third part of my moveable Estate as also the benefit of the Home Lott provided She Shall use the best of her Endevour Either to Lease it out or Otherwise to Sell it to the highest Purchaser.I further Order that after my decease all my Other Lands to be Sold to ye Best purchaser And the money to be equally divided with the Interest thereof between my five Sons Benjamin Hull Trustram Hull Jacob Hull Reuben Hull and Meshach Hull but if any of my abovesaid five Sons die without Issue that then & in Such Case his or their part So dying Shall go to the Survivors of them then living to be equally divided by even and equal parts: but if any of the above mentioned Brothers be married and Should happen to die then his or their parte So married Shall go to his or their Heirs and Assigns for ever. Item I further give and [remainder of the line illegible] and shallsatisfy all the debts due to me after my decease. And as for the two thirds of my moveable Estate I will and Order after all my debts are fully Satisfied and paid that they be devided according to the discretion of my Said Wife. Item I give to my Son Joseph Hull ten Shillings. Lastly I Constitute make and Ordain Sarah Hull my well beloved Wife Executrix and Joseph Fitsrandolph and John Skillman Executors of this my last Will and testament And I do hereby Utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and Every other former testaments Wills and Legacys Requests & Executors by me in any ways before this time named Willed & bequeathed Ratifying & Confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament.

In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand & Seal the day & year above Written."

After his death, Sarah married Israel Folsom around 1739.They lived near a place called the "Landing," on the river just above New Brunswick, Middlesex County.

Sarah died in Piscataway in May 1749; her will dated 2 May 1749 was proved 22 May of that same year, and provided:

The Will of Sarah Drake

" In the name of God Amen.The Second Day of May in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Nine, I Sary Folsom of the Town of Piscataway, in the Counte of Middlesex and Province of New Jersey, Widdow, Being very Sick and weak in Body and knowing that it is Apponted for Men once to Die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament, That is to Say principally and first of all I give and Recommend my Soul into the Hands of God that gave it; And for my Body I Recommend to the Earth, to be Buried in Christian Like, and decent manner, at the discretion of my Executor, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall Receive the Same again by the mighty Power of God. And as touching Such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this Life I give devise and dispose of the Same, in the Following Manner and forme. Imprimis.I give and bequeath unto my Well beloved Son Joseph Hull, the Sum of Sixteen pounds and Ten Shillings Currant money of the Province abovesaid at eight Shillings per ounce, to him his Heirs and Assigns. Item.I give to my Well beloved Son Trustrum Hull the Sum of Sixteen pounds and Ten Shillings of like Currant Money above Said to him his Heirs and Assigns. Item.I give to my Well beloved Daughter Anne Skilman the Wife of John Skilman the Sum of Sixteen Pounds and Ten Shillings like money above said; to her, her Heirs and Assigns. Item.I give to my Well beloved Daughter Elisabeth Clauson, the wife of John Clauson the Sum of Sixteen Pounds and Ten Shillings like money above Said to her, her Heirs and Assigns.And also all my Sheep to her and hers aforesaid. Item.I give to me Well beloved Daughter Eunice Dunn the Wife of Phineas Dunn, the Sum of Twenty Pounds like Money above Said to her, her Heirs and Assigns. Item.I give to my Well beloved Son in law Moses Fitzrandolph the Sum of Three Pounds of like Money above Said to him his Heirs and Assigns. Item.I give to my Well beloved Grand Son Benjamin Dunn the Son of Jeremiah Dunn the Sum of Two Pounds, of like money above Said, to him his Heirs and Assigns. Item.I give to my Well beloved Grand Son Moses Fitzrandolph the Son of Moses Fitxrandolph the Sum of Two Pounds like Money above Said, to him his Heris and Assigns. Item.I give to my Well beloved Grand Son Mesheck Hull Son of Benjamin Hull, the Sum of Two Pounds of like money above Said. Item.I give to my Well beloved Grand Son Benjamin Hull Son of Jacob Hull the Sum of Two Pounds of like Money above Said, to him his Heris and Assigns. Item.I give to my Well beloved Grand Daughter Zerviah Martin, Daughter of Mulford Martin, the Sum of three Pounds of like Money above Said, to him his Heris and Assigns. Item.I Will that My Funeral Charges and other Lawfull Debts be paid out of my other Movable Estate. And that whatsoever over [plus?] Shall then Remain, to be equally Divided amongst my Children above mentioned; that is to say Joseph Hull, Trustram Hull, Anne Skilman, Elizabeth Clauson, and Eunice Dunn, to each of them their parts, to them their Heirs and Assigns. Item.I will that my Executor as Soon as Conveniently may be do Collect my Lawfull debts; and also as Soon as Conveniently may be, he Do pay the above mentions Sums to the persons above Named as here in [presented?]; to them or their order. And I Do hereby utterly disallow Revoke and disanul all and every other former Testaments, Wills, Legacees, and Executors, by me in any ways before this time Named, Willed and Bequeathed; Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament.And I Do likewise Constitute make and Ordain My Beloved Son in Law Jeremiah Dunn of the Town above Said, to be my only and Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament. In Witness where of I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal the Day and Year above written."

Her estate was inventoried on 19 May 1749:

"Wearing apparel, a Gold Locket, a gold ring and Silver Clasps, Cash [%C2%A3]20.13.03, a bond from Israel Folsom [%C2%A3]100, a bond of Moses Fitzrandolph [%C2%A3]18.05.00, a Note of Thos Walker [%C2%A3]3.15.00, a box of Scales & Weights, a Silver point & 2 Silver Cups, a bedsted & beding, a Case of Drawers, a Chest, puter & glass [Canter?], a Brass kettle & brass Candlestick, a bottle & earthen pot, a Small Wheel, a pair of Spectacles, Linnen and tow yarn and Wollen yarn, a Cow and yearling, An accompl against Phinehas Dunn, a A [Cafe?] bottle, a tramel."

The total was £181.26.09.
