Sarah "Sally" Lane was born on February 2, 1754, in Lunenburg County, Virginia, the child of John Fuller and Elizabeth Cloud Lane. The Lane family were devout Baptists and contributed generously to the denomination in Tennessee. A Baptist church was organized at Big Spring and a meeting house; a log church is still standing on the knoll where it was built in Claiborne County, Tennessee.
Sarah married Zachariah McCubbins in December 1772 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. They had 11 children in 19 years. Her husband Zachariah passed away on October 24, 1834, in Tazewell, Tennessee, at the age of 82. They had been married for 61 years. After Zachariah died in 1834, Sarah Lane McCubbins claimed a letter of dismissal from Big Spring Baptist Church and moved to Illinois with her son William.
It is believed she died about 1836, in Edgar County, Illinois, having lived a long life of 82 years although Find A Grave daters state 100 years of age.
