About Sarah G. Martin

Sarah G, (Brown) Martin

  • Birth: May 04, 1832 Edgartown, Dukes, Massachusetts, United States
  • Death: April 25, 1911 Edgartown, Dukes, Massachusetts, United States (Breast cancer)
  • Place of Burial: Hilltop Cemetery (Chappaquiddick Cemetery), Edgartown, Dukes, Massachusetts, United States

In 1857, Martin returned from a successful voyage aboard the Edgartown vessel Europa and he and Sarah married. Between voyages, Martin lived with Sarah and her family on Chappaquiddick on land designated for American Indians called the Chappaquiddick Plantation.

They had no children, but owned a relatively simple two-story home on Chappaquiddick, indicating his successes in the Edgartown maritime industry.

In 1907, Sarah and William Martin celebrated their 50-year anniversary, which was recorded cordially in the Vineyard Gazette of July 11, 1907, Weintraub said.
