About Sarah Moore Henderson

Letter from George Washington, still in existence reads:
“The wedding of a friend, Alexander Henderson, took place last night. The bride was the beautiful Sally Moore of Colchester. “
"Mentioning of one wedding puts me in mind of another, tho of less dignity. This is the marriage of Mr. Henderson of Colchester to a Miss Moore (of the same place), remarkable for a very frizzled head, and good singing, the latter of which I shall presume it was that captivated our merchant."
Her granddaughter, Sara Henderson Smith wrote:
“My Grandmother was remarkable for intellectual gifts, which throughout her life she continued to cultivate by extensive reading and every means afforded in her day. To a poetic temperment, she added love of music and a voice of great power and sweetness. when other opportunity was not afforded, she tuned her own piano”
Also described as “A witty beauty with red hair who loved to sing”
Among the last lines uttered from her death bed were the lines from Waller’s “Old Age”-
“The soul’s dark cottage, shattered and decayed, lets in new light, thro’ clinks that time has made”
