Biography

Like many women of her time, we know very little of William Holt's wife.

She was having children between about 1645 and 1656, so we can estimate her birth between 1611 (age 45 in 1656) and 1627 (age 18 in 1645). She died in 1717, so probably closer to 1627.

We know her name was Sarah, because she witnessed Henry Glover's will in 1664.[1]

We know she was a religious woman. It was she that brought Eleazar, Thomas, Joseph and Benjamin to be baptized in July 1656.[2] She also had an assigned seat at the meetinghouse.[1]

From the town records.
1 Jul 1651 "Goodwife Holt complained of one Ositon a Connecticote Indian yt he came into her house, when none but her boy was ther, went to an inward roome, and stole a paire of new stockings wch cost her 5s. The Indian confessed, said he was sorry and was fined."[3]

She remarried after the death of William to William Peck, and died in 1717.[4]
