Francis was born about 1764. He was the son of Craven Peyton and Ann West. He passed away at his home in Alexandria, Virginia in 1836. His obituary published in the Alexandria Gazette stated he was one of the cities oldest and most respected citizens, having resided there for the last 50 years.

His widow Sarah, children, and numerous grandchildren are identified by several Chancery cases filed in Alexandria County after his death, the death's of two of his sons, and that of his widow in 1849, to wit:

• William "Henry" Peyton, d. Oct 1849, m. Sarah Ann, ch: George Dallas Peyton
