About Sarah Sherwood
Death Notice in "The Sydney Morning Herald" of Friday 7 May 1937:
"SHERWOOD.-May 6. 1937, at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sarah. beloved wife of Francis F. Sherwood, of Nambucca Heads, and mother of Frances. Lucy. Lois, Mary, Elva, and Bill, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Jarrett, of 1 Cevu-avenue, Willoughby, aged 48 vears."
Marriage described in the "Clarence and Richmond Examiner" of Saturday 4 June 1910:
"Social Notes. :
Sherwood-Jarrett Wedding. Notwithstanding the very unpromising state of the weather on Wednesday morning, the wedding arrangements of Miss Jarrett, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs Jarrett, of "Edgefern," to Mr. Frank Sherwood, of Nana Glen, were successfully carried out. Fortunately, a short time before the appointed hour the rain ceased for a while and gave an opportunity for the bridal party to reach the Pioneer Hall with comfort, where the wedding breakfast was laid. The interior of the pretty little Methodist Church was a charming picture in artistic decoration, kindly carried out by many friends of the bride, under the able supervision of Mr. A . W. Fowler. A beautiful wedding veil of ferns, tastefully touched with flowers was a sight to be remembered, while graceful pot plants filled all available spaces. The bride entered the church on her father's arm, the choir singing the usual wedding hymn. The bridesmaids followed, the chief being the bride's sister, Miss Laura Jarrett ; the second Miss Lucy Sherwood, sister of the bridegroom. Mr W Knight, of Nana Glen, supported the bridegroom as best man. The marriage ceremony was impressively performed by the Rev Westbrook, and at its close the party left the church to the strains of the "Wedding March," played by the organist, Miss Kerr. The bride's dress was of deep cream chiffon taffeta silk, richly draped, with silk lace and sequin trimmings of gold and silver. A beautiful gold pendant, the gift of the bridegroom, was worn by the bride, while wreath and veil were well in keeping with the bridal costume. Miss Laura Jarrett was costumed in box dress of Indian embroidered muslin with hat to match the varying shades being in pale heliotrope : while Miss L Sherwood appeared in dress of the same material with hat to match but in white effects only. Both bridesmaids wore the bridegroom's gifts of gold crescent brooches. On entering the Pioneer Hall a most artistic sight met the eye, and of this beautiful picture Mr. Tom, of Coramba, was successful in obtaining a fine portrait. These arrangements were under tho supervision of Mrs. W Mathie of Nana Glen, assistance being again rendered by the many friends of the bride and her family. Very seldom in sparse country centres can such fine arrangements be carried out, and nothing but the artistic skill of those undertaking the work could ensure such perfect arrangements or fine effect. A matter of regret to Mr. and Mrs. Jarrett was the prevention of attendance by many of their long-distanced guests through the inclement weather. After justice had been done to the fine breakfast provided, the Chairman, Rev. Mr. 'Westbrook, proposed the health of "The Bride and Bridegroom," to which Mr. F. Sherwood responded, "The Bridesmaids, " by Mr F. F. Sherwood, and responded to by Mr.Wright : "The Bride's Parents," by. Mr. H. Playford and responded to by Mr. T. J. Jarrett "Bridegroom's Parents.' by Mr A J King to which Mr.E B Sherwood : responded "The Guests," by Mr. T. J. Jarrett and responded to by. Mr.R Playford. "The King," by Mr. A. W. Fowler, brought the toast list to a close. The wedding presents were numerous, and as they appeared on show would do credit to many stalls in a country store, while nestling among them was a fine bit of green paper bearing the bride's name and three figures. Many congratulatory telegrams were recieved from distant friends. "
