OBITUARY - The Anita Tribune, Anita, Cass County, Iowa, Thursday, February 15, 1912:
Sarah Ann Cox was born in Lynn county, April 23rd, 1883, and died February 5th, 1912; aged 78 years, 8 months, and 13 days.
In 1885 she was married to Joseph Statts, but later her husband having died, she was married to Joseph Kirkpatrick; they moving to this county about twenty-six years ago. She was the mother of four children, they being, Timothy Statts, of Nevanville, Iowa; Harmin Statts, of Winona, Missouri; and the other two waiting for the Mother at the golden gate. Two sisters also mourn her loss - Mrs. Ellen Purcell, of Winona; and Mrs. Mary D. Taylor, west of this city, and at whose home she died.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick, when quite young united with the Evangelical church, and lived a consistent christian life until she passed to the great beyond. The writer had the pleasure of meeting this good old lady on several occasions, and found her to be indeed a Mother of Israel. She was kind, affectionate and loving, very cheerful, making sunshine and carrying gladness among her friends. She was also very industrious, her hands keeping busy doing something for those she loved. How much her life meant to those who were near and dear to her, words cannot tell. The doorway of her life seemed to have been hung around with flowery emblems to show that she lived for something. But that Mother and Sister has gone. The old arm chair will be vacant. Her love can never, no never, be supplied. Heaven had imprinted something in the dear old face, that seemed far beyond this world, but her influence will never die.
Funeral services were held at the Evangelical church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. M. Bamford, on Wednesday, after which the remains were bourne to Evergreen cemetery, to await the resurrection morn. M. M. H. (Error in this obit: Sarah was married to Elijah Statts, older brother of Joseph Statts. "Statts" is misspelled and should be spelled Staats.)
