"After selling her property to First Security bank, Sarah Jane had a small, one-bedroom house built where the parking lot is now located behind the Times Independent. The city was digging a trench along the alley behind where Family Drug is now. She came home one night after dark, and since no one had put a light in the open trench, she failed to see it and accidently fell in. A sharp piece of pipe pierced her body and ruptured her bladder. According to family records, her death was from peritonitis resulting from the wound, even though her obituary claimed her death was from cancer. She died in March on the 12th, 1922 at the age of 73." [from Moab DUP Grand County Pioneer Families, Vol. II, Book 1, March 1986]
