Find A Grave Memorial 42176843
He may have been the son of Abraham Zimmerman, whose name appears in the tax list of 1734 in Maxatawny Township, but other sources cite his parents as Andreas Zimmerman and Anna Elisabetha Freyburger and that he was the twin brother to Johann Georg Zimmerman.
He immigrated to America on the ship "Pink Plaisance", arriving in Philadelphia on 21 September 1732 from Palatinate in Germany via the port of Rotterdam. He was married to Anna Elizabeth Levan by the Rev. J. Casper Stoever on 13 December 1733. Sebastian became a naturalized citizen on 12 April 1743. He owned 100 acres of land in Maxatawny Township, Berks County, from John Penn, Thomas Penn and Richard Penn, the proprietors by a patent grant written 23 May 1741, who released this land to Sebastian as recorded in Philadelphia Patent Book A, V.9, p.302. Sebastian also purchased 170 acres on 5 March 1744/1745 from Casper and Catharine Wister of Philadelphia. He also acquired a deed from the executors of Casper Wister's estate on an adjoining tract of land of 251 acres on May 31, 1753. He must have bought additional property based on acres sold in deeds on 14 February 1775 and later given in his will, bringing the total acres in Maxatawny Township in Berks County to over 700. He wrote a codicil to his will on 28 April 1775 that revoked that part of his will of 1774 that said unpatented land should be sold for the best price. Some of this land is referenced in Deed Book 2 and dated 14 February 1775, and was deeded over to his sons, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and to his son-in-law, Johan Gross, before he died.
He was influential in local politics, serving as a judge of the court (colonial justice) in 1763. He helped lay out the road to the city of Philadelphia known as the Allemangel Road He accompanied Jacob Levan to Philadelphia at the time of the Indian uprisings in petition of relief.
From Sebastian's will the following are listed; the will was dated March 2, 1774 and proved on August 13, 1776 in Berks County Pennsylvania. Wife: Beloved Anna Elizabeth; Children: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Maria wife of Jacob Melchlin, Catherine wife of Joseph Gross, Elizabeth wife of Andrew Eshenbach, Susanna wife of John Gross, Esther wife of William Green, Rebecca wife of John Eshenbach, and Sarah wife of Andrew Coldeleugh. Some of these children were married several times; these would be their spouse at the time the will was written in 1774.
