FRAMES FOR THE FUTURE Iron River area Michigan centennial book 1981 "Beechwood: Hi-Lights of Beechwood by Hazel Nyren DeCloux" page 74 (excerpt)
When Senia Salo Maki went to the Benson School, she was neither tardy nor absent for five years. When she was a tiny girl of eight years, one day Senia was stuck in the snow in the middle of the road, and if it hadn't been for Dad, she would have frozen to death. Senia said Dad was God-sent.
One incident I remember was when eight or ten young people rode on Hilbert Benson's dump truck, and as we were going up Wickstrom's high hill, instead of shifting Hilbert pressed the dump lever, and we all rolled out on both sides of the road. I came to on the other side of a rusty fence, I looked around and saw Senia Salo with her head lying close to a big stone. I think Saimi and Helmi Maki, the Williams girls, Benson, Evelyn and Bernice were along, too. Well, we walked the rest of the way up the hill.
