Daniel Bills was a Sgt.in Capt. William Stanton's co. of Connecticut troops. Daniel was excommunicated from the Quaker society for pledging to the American cause. He was a Justice of the Peace while in NJ. He moved to Marshall Co,TN about 1819 where he and Deborah are buried. Daniel and Deborah remained loyal Quakers all their lives although many of their children were officially disowned by the Friends mostly for marrying out of unity. In 1793 in Surrey Co NC they were among the founding families of the Deep Creek Monthly Meeting of Quakers. "Daniel and Deborah must certainly have suffered the verbal and sometimes physical persecution of the times by the puritanical and somewhat intolerant attitudes of the dominant Christian churches, and it is thought that this is the reason that Daniel took his family to the wilderness area, choosing a Quaker settlement in Surry Co., NC in 1775" Some records indicate that he was an invalid for a great part of his life and was prevented from serving throughout the war. In Lewisburg, Marshall County, TN he is listed on a plaque as a Revolutionary War Patriot.
