Death: Mar. 4, 1920 Sioux City Woodbury County Iowa, USA
Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served during the Civil War as a Sergeant in Company E, 52nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery in for action at the Battle of Shiloh (Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee) on April 6, 1862. His citation reads: "Although twice wounded, and thereby crippled for life, he remained fighting in open ground to the close of the battle."
