Isaac VanMeter was born on February 2, 1759 in Frederick County, Virginia. His father was Jacob Jansen "Jake" VanMeter, Sr., who was born on March 1722/1723 in Salem or Somerset County, New Jersey. He died on November 16, 1798 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He was buried there in the Samuel Haycraft Cemetery in Elizabethtown.

His mother was Letitia "Lettie" Stroud, the daughter of Edward Stroud, II and Eleanor (?) Stroud. Letitia was born on August 19, 1725 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. She died in 1799 and was buried with her husband in the Samuel Haycraft Cemetery in Elizabethtown.

Isaac Vanmeter (Van Meter) served in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted in 1778, serving as a Private under Capt. Harrod. In 1780 he served for 6 weeks under Capt. Swan. In 1782 he served for 6 weeks under Capt. Vertrees.

Isaac Vanmeter was the husband of Martha Hubbard. They were married on July 29, 1783 in Lincoln County, Virginia which became Kentucky in 1792. They were the parents of the following children born in Kentucky:

1. Frances born 16 Oct 1784 in Nelson (later Hardin)County, Kentucky. She died in 1860 in Macoupin County, IL. She married James Haycraft, III on 8 Jun 1802 in Harden County. He was the son of James Haycraft and Ellen Jackson. He was born in 1778 in what became Elizabethtown, Hardin Co., KY, and died on 2 Jun 1848 in Macoupin Co., Medora, IL.

2. Abraham was born 17 Aug 1786, and died on 27 Apr 1855 in Grayson County. He married Sarah Vanmeter.

3. Jacob was born 2 Apr 1789, and died 30 Sep 1822.

4. Nancy was born 9 Jul 1791, and died 26 Aug 1824 in Grayson County.

5. Elizabeth was born on 15 Aug 1794 in Hardin County, and died 1854 in Madison, IL. She married Joel Morrison.

6. Isaac Hoagland was born on 1 Jan 1796 in Hardin County, and died 4 Jun 1808.

7. Mary was born 9 Jul 1798 in Hardin County. She married Daniel Hicks on 1 Jun 1820.

8. Hubbard was born on 6 Aug 1802 in Hardin County, and died 1832. He married Sarah Bush on 14 Feb 1825 in Hardin County, the daughter of William Bush.

9. Susan - born unknown. She was identified as the first wife of John Augustine "Jack" Porter, the son of Elias and Nancy (?) Porter, in the Old VanMeter Cemetery. He was born on 5 Feb 1792 and d. 29 Dec 1853 and is buried in the Porter Cemetery. Susan is buried in the Old VanMeter Cemetery with her father. She was the mother of Gallatin, born on 16 Dec 1818 and Isaac Franklin, born on 7 Jan 1822

10. Matilda - born 28 Dec 1807 in Hardin County, She marrie John Augustine "Jack" Porter as his second wife. They were the parents of: Jane (m. Paterson) b. 7 May 1829; and Susan (m. William Newell Beauchamp) b. 16 Apr 1840;

Isaac Vanmeter died on November 4, 1840 in Grayson County, Kentucky. He was buried there in the Old Vanmeter Cemetery in the Yeaman Community of Grayson County.
