Sgt. John Stanwood was born March 24, 1652/3 at Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts and died there January 25, 1706 (at age 52). He was the second son of Philip Stanwood, the immigrant ancestor, and his wife Jane Whitmarsh.

John Stanwood served under Captain Samuel Brocklebank during King Philip's War.

Lydia Mercer was born about 1655 in Sheepscot,,ME. She died after 1742 in Gloucester, Essex, MA. She was the daughter of Thomas Mercer b abt 1620 in England & Edith, and widow of a Butler or Cutler when she married John Stanwood on 9 Dec 1680 in Gloucester, Essex, MA.
