-Arrived in Philadelphia via Rotterdam on August 15, 1750 and settled in Germantown section of Philadelphia with his brothers Wendel and Henry.

-Fought in the Battles of Princeton and Trenton, and was wounded in the Battle of Long Island.

-Lived as a farmer after the war.

He was the son of Johann Adam Bretz and Otillia Schulthiess. He immigrated with his brothers Wendel and Heinrich to America on August 15th, 1750 on the ship Royal Union. He was a farmer and a sergeant in the Revolutionary War, fighting in the battles of Trenton and Princton. He was wounded in the battle of Long Island April 23, 1781. He was one of the earliest settlers in the Lyken Valley.

He was married to an Elizabeth and had the following children:
