About Shadrach Meshack Stacy, Sr.
- Reference: Ancestry Records - SmartCopy: Jul 13 2016, 15:41:57 UTC
The identification of Shadrach Stacy, whose birth was recorded in Overwharton Parish, Stafford County VA on Aug. 20, 1756 with the Meshack Stacy who later appears in tithables and court records of Russell County, VA is based on the possible confusion of either a parent, relative or vestryman who entered the birth in the parish register. Shadrach and Meshach, along with Abednego, are characters from an Old Testament story about three Hebrew youths who survive being thrown in a fire and someone who knew the story may have gotten the names confused. But the different names likely represent the same person. See also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadrach,_Meshach,_and_Abednego Shadrach was born in 1756. He passed away about 1836. He lived next to his son's family Meshach Stacy in Scott, Virginia in 1820.
